Why have an Ear Candling treatment at the Spiritual Haven?
Do you suffer from conditions related to your ear, nose or throat? Ear candles are an ancient and natural therapy derived for the Hopi tribe that can offer relief from a variety of conditions. Ear candling treatments can help reduce inflammation in the ears and sinuses, relieve the symptoms of hay fever, rebalance your body’s natural flow, and generally calm and relax you when life is stressful.
On your first visit I will conduct a short health consultation with you. This enables the treatment to be tailored to your specific needs. You will be invited to remove your shoes and to lie on a massage table. With blankets and pillows for your comfort. During the session, you may experience different sensations, clients always comment that it is a very relaxing treatment. It is strongly advised that the procedure should be performed by trained therapist like myself. It involves inserting an ear candle into the ear with the person laying on their side. There are a lot of myths around about Ear Candling, but it is proving to be one of my most successful treatments’. One myth around them is that they draw ear wax out of the ear. They do not, they work by vaporising their ingredients once lit, causing air flow towards the first chamber of the ear. This creates a mild suction, which lets the vapours gently massage the eardrum and auditory canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear, it forms a seal which works to loosen ear wax, so it can be dispelled naturally, and draw other impurities out of the ear.
Although many people can and do benefit from this treatment, I won’t carry it out if you have an ear infection, perforated eardrum, inflammation within the ear, or if you have grommets fitted. I will also talk you through the candles’ ingredients to check that you’re not allergic to any of them.
The number of ear candle treatments you need will depend on your reason for choosing this therapy. If you want relief from a short-term problems such as a cold, then you may need several treatments over a couple of weeks. For longer term problems, such as tinnitus, you may benefit from a number of treatments over two to three weeks with a follow-up treatment once a month from then on.
You may experience some side effects for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Generally speaking, these are a sign that the treatment has had a positive effect. The most common side effects are:
- Cold-like symptoms
- Headache
- Slight dizziness
- Slight dryness in the throat
- A sticky feeling in the ears or the sensation of loose ear wax
Many people find that positive side effects are better clarity of sound and an immediate relief of pressure in the ears or sinuses.
An Ear Candling treatment takes approximately 10-15 minutes per ear. As I perform a light facial massage at the end of your treatment, you should expect to be in your appointment for approximately 45 minutes.
